Quirkycat is the work of jeweller and artist, Tracy Blease. Tracy trained at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen where she specialised in jewellery design. After leaving Gray’s she set up a little workshop in her garden where she made pierced silver jewellery inspired by architecture and natural forms such as butterflies.

Tracy says “Colour is the driving force behind my work and polymer clay has provided me with a material which is bursting with colour and endless possibilities for technique and design. I now use clay where I used to use metal. The technique of mokume gane is a Japanese metalworking technique using layers of different colours of metal then cutting and rolling them to reveal patterns. Using clay to do a similar thing allows me freedom in the colours I use and in the malleability of the material. Surface effects caused by mica particles in the clay produce a finish which could not be done with any other material.”
